The Good People of Haiti

January 13, 2010 – by Gregory Franklyn

Tonight I wish to draw your attention to the devastating 7.0 earthquake that has destroyed Porte Au Prince in Haiti. Through no fault of their own the good people of Haiti are in desparate need of the most basic human needs for survival: Medical care, food, water and power! I am dedicating this space tonight to my appeal for donations to support the many people and organizations who are responding to this crisis in ways that truly matter.

If you have a favorite trusted charity involved in international disaster relief, they are, likely, already involved. Please make a contribution to them even if it is a small one. In disasters like this, every little bit helps!

If you want to help, but don’t know where to start, here are a few suggestions that have been vetted and are legitimate opportunities needing your assistance. There are many more. Don’t be shy if you can’t donate a lot. In disasters like this one, even small amounts make a HUGE difference! Please give what you can.

On the subject of Haiti: How do you feel about how Jon Stewart of the Daily Show compared Maddow’s comments about USAID with the bizarre and insensitive statements made by Robertson and Darth Limbaugh. Robertson said the earthquake was an outcome of the Haitians having made a pact with the Devil. Limbaugh implied that people should not give because Obama would put it in his campaign coffers. Maddow merely gave some perspective on what USAID is and how its charter was in line with the vision this administration has for it. I am going to blog more on Stewart as I see him becoming more and more a tool of the right.

    Good to see you Carl,

Fair is fair, John Stewart went after Rachel Maddow for politicizing the tragedy as he did Limbaugh and Robertson. I would expect as much from the latter 2 embarrassments to the human race but Maddow’s comment seemed out of character to me when I first saw her utter it. I can forgive her, somewhat, for being truthful and at least a little sensitive about it, but it was politicization none the less.

I think John Stewart was just trying to be fair and balanced with his barbs! I mean, he went after the conservatives for it, and didn’t let his friends off the hook for doing the same thing.

The other two, were just making stuff up and shoveling it at us like the political gravediggers they truly are. What frightens me most about these two neanderthals is that I don’t think either of them have hit bottom yet! Stay tuned, they can go even lower!

You won’t be getting any support from me for going after John Stewart. You’re on your own there. His credentials are good with me! A straight man who can gush at Julie Andrews like he did on Friday Night get’s, in the words of “Men on Film” two BIG thumbs up with a “round the world snap” from me! “LOVED IT!” ;-)
    Much Love,
    Gregory
